John Ronald Reuel Tolkien was born in Bloemfontein, South Africa. on January 3, 1892. His father died at a young age, and his mother then moved to Birmingham, England. Later, in 1904, Tolkien's mother passed away. J.R.R and his brother were then sent to live in a boarding home. Years later in Tolkien's life he enlisted as a lieutenant in World War I, where during his service he continued to write. Also during his military service J.R.R Tolkien married Edith Bratt in 1916. When J.R.R returned, he became a professor at Oxford where he wrote many books along with creating a writing club. J.R.R Tolkien Died on September 2, 1973 where he and his wife are buried together in Wolvercote cemetery.
J.R.R. Tolkien is a renowned fantasy writer. All of Tolkien's books fall under the genre of fantasy, and most of his books fall under the high fantasy genre as well. He is best known for writing 'The Hobbit' and 'The Lord of the Rings' trilogy.
